Hello my name is Phil.

Welcome to my website. Thank you for visiting. I hope some of my images give you the same pleasure I had when I shot them.

I live in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. Canberra has often been described as the “bush” capital due to the many nature reserves in and around it. This gives me plenty of areas to go for my photography. The main focus of which is the abundant and varied bird species located here. This is why I have three galleries devoted to them.

I started taking an interest in Digital photographic equipment around 2008. By then, a lot of camera manufacturers had made improvements to the quality of the captured image to make it viable to start changing over from my old faithful Nikon film gear.

I spent a lot of time researching the different brands and their products and eventually settled on Canon. My first purchase was the Canon 40D SLR camera with 10 mega pixels under the hood. Brilliant. I combined it with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. Ok, it’s not the most expensive kit out there but it was somewhere to start. I jammed the biggest memory card I could find into the camera and soon I was out and about looking for a suitable subject. That first day will always stay in my memory. I maxed out the memory card! I spent the next 2 days going through all the images on the computer. The lesson learnt was not to shoot everything under the sun because all you end up with is a numb bum and hundreds of images to sort through.

I have 5 gallery’s on the site. The first 3 are devoted to my photographs of the varied bird species. The fourth is my High Dynamic Range gallery (HDR). These images are processed using Photomatix Pro 4 software. I generally take 3 to 5 shots at various exposures. The fifth gallery is for animals, insects and flora. They are taken in the wild, Zoo’s or in a home made studio setup in the lounge.

Please be patient when you click on the galleries, there are a lot of images and it will take a few seconds for the gallery to open.

I haven’t provided a comments page but if you would like to, please drop me an email via the “contact me” form. Should you wish to purchase or use any of my images, again, please contact me and we can haggle a price and method of delivery.

Once again, thank you for visiting.
